The Top Insurance Providers for Musicians, Bands, and Recording Studios

There are several musical instrument insurance providers that offer coverage for instruments and music equipment. The larger of these providers often work with orchestras who have Stradivarius instruments and need millions of dollars in coverage…so they can definitely provide more than enough coverage for you and me. In this post I’m going to highlight 5 companies that are known for providing great coverage to musicians around the world. These companies tailor coverage to what we do and can make sure our livelihoods are protected day and night. As a plus, these companies all have solid reviews and have been around for many years. If you are shopping music instrument insurance, these companies are great places to start getting quotes. As with anything, I absolutely recommend doing your own research to find the best cost to coverage ratio. The best company for a single touring musician may not be be the best for a commercial studio with a roster of employees.

Let’s dive in!

Heritage Insurance Services Inc. - Heritage is a leading provider of musical instrument insurance, offering coverage for everything from guitars and keyboards to brass and woodwinds. They offer customizable policies to fit the specific needs of musicians, with coverage for loss, theft, damage, and liability. Heritage offers comprehensive coverage to players, collectors, makers, repair shops, and dealers of professional-quality new and vintage musical instruments. They also provide insurance to cover accessories and musically related equipment such as amplifiers, audio and video equipment, electrical gear, cases, and books.

MusicPro Insurance - MusicPro is a specialized insurance provider for musicians, offering coverage for instruments, recording equipment, and liability. They offer flexible policies that can be tailored to the specific needs of individual musicians. MusicPro also offers a low $100 per incident deductible with their plans. Computers, microphones, and recording equipment can all be covered under these plans as well.

Anderson Musical Instrument Insurance Solutions, LLC - Anderson is a leading provider of insurance for musical instruments, offering coverage for all types of instruments, including strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. They offer customizable policies and work with some of the largest orchestras and organizations in the world. Anderson also offers coverage for a wide range of musical items like sheet music, texts, and scores. If you have an extensive library this would be a huge plus. They automatically build flood, fire, and earthquake coverage into their policies as well.

Clarion Associates Inc. - Clarion offers a variety of insurance options for musicians, including coverage for instruments, sheet music, and accessories. They offer fully customizable policies with coverage for loss, theft, damage, and liability. Low, per incident deductibles are an option here and Clarion offers worldwide coverage to over 13,000 musicians.

HUB International - HUB International is a global insurance provider that offers coverage for musical instruments and equipment. They offer customizable policies with coverage for loss, theft, damage, and liability, as well as coverage for rehearsal and performance spaces. They offer plans for film studios, photography locations, plays, shows, and event spaces.

When considering a musical instrument insurance provider, it's important to evaluate their policy options, coverage limits, and pricing to find the best fit for your needs. It's also a good idea to read customer reviews and seek recommendations from other musicians to ensure you're choosing a reputable provider. All the above providers average 4-Star or 5-Star reviews online and many are A+ rated with the Better Business Bureau. For the sake of this post, I left off providers that have less than solid reputations when comparing user reviews.

I have personally used two of the above providers – Clarion and Anderson - never had an issue with either. My current plan is with Anderson as I found their policies more adaptable and fitting for my recording studio and touring equipment. Once you know what you want and insured and what your potential budget is, I recommend reaching out to 2-3 of the companies above and getting competing quotes. When comparing numbers make sure you are comparing comparable coverage. A cheaper plan that doesn’t cover your gear does you no good. As always, if you have any questions, I’m happy to help if I can.

Do you have any experience with the above companies? Or do you have a company I should add? Let me know in the comments!
